Sustainability at Woodland Escapes

Sustainability at Woodland Escapes

At Woodland Escapes Shropshire, sustainability isn’t just a consideration—it’s at the heart of everything we do. Nestled in the breathtaking Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), we’re privileged to be part of one of the UK’s most stunning and ecologically significant landscapes. This designation reflects not only the natural beauty of the region but also its rich biodiversity, ancient woodlands, and cultural heritage—all of which we are committed to preserving.

Light Footprint, Naturally

To minimise light pollution and protect nocturnal wildlife, all external lighting is fitted with motion and light sensors—illuminating only when necessary to prevent light pollution allowing our guests to enjoy the star-filled Shropshire skies at night. Many of our outside lights are solar powered.

Powered by Nature

Some of our properties harness energy through solar power, ensuring that your stay is as environmentally friendly as it is comfortable. By reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, we help keep our carbon footprint low and our skies clear. Our heating boilers offer the latest in fuel efficiency and are hydrogen ready.

Green Living, Inside and Out

We provide guests with eco-friendly toiletries and cleaning products, all of which are biodegradable and safe for use in our septic tanks. Our bamboo toilet paper is both sustainable and soft—no trees harmed, just responsible luxury. We also offer recycling facilities on site, helping you reduce waste during your stay. Please follow the guidance in your welcome book.

Locally Sourced Goodness

Our celebration hampers are brimming with delicious treats from local producers across Shropshire. By sourcing locally, we reduce food miles, support small businesses, and give our guests a real taste of the region.

A Sanctuary for Wildlife

We manage large areas of our grounds as wildflower meadows, supporting pollinators, birds, and other native species. This natural approach to land care increases biodiversity and allows guests to connect with the rhythms of the wild throughout the seasons.

Rewilding and Replanting

We’re proud to be undertaking a long-term tree planting programme, with 600 native trees being planted across the site. These trees will provide vital habitats, improve air quality, and contribute to long-term carbon capture efforts—ensuring our woodlands thrive for generations to come.
